Raghuvar Das to be first non-tribal Chief Minister of Jharkhand
Raghuvar Das, national vice-president of the BJP will be the first
non-tribal Chief Minister of Jharkhand after he was elected the leader
of the BJP Legislature Party on Friday.
BJP observer J.P. Nadda said after the legislature party meeting that
Mr. Das’ name was proposed by Sarayu Roy, another frontrunner for the
post and C.P. Singh and supported by all the party MLAs.
Mr. Das is also a former Deputy Chief Minister of the State.
UK tests First hybrid-electric airplane
United Kingdom (UK) has successfully tested first hybrid-electric airplane driven by parallel hybrid electric engine.
The airplane was flight tested by researchers from the University of Cambridge, in association with Boeing.

- Airplane’s parallel hybrid-electric propulsion system has an electric motor along with petrol engine that work together to drive the propeller.
- Test has shown that it consumes up to 30 per cent less fuel compared to the conventional plane with only petrol engine.
- The parallel hybrid electric engine consumes maximum power during takeoff. But after plane reaches particular height during flight, the electric motor starts operating to save fuel consumption.
- The aircraft is also able to recharge its batteries in flight which has been achieved for the first time and considered as an important step toward cleaner, low-carbon air travel.
President signs ordinance on insurance, coal
President Pranab Mukherjee on Friday signed two key ordinances allowing
hike in the FDI cap in the insurance sector and facilitating e-auction
of coal blocks.
The NDA Government had recommended promulgation of these ordinances after failing to get them passed in Parliament.

Sun Network COO arrested for sexual harassment
The Chief Operating Officer of Sun Network, Praveen Chathangathodi (49),
was arrested by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) on Friday on charges of
harassing a former female colleague, following a complaint lodged by
her.
Sources with the CCB said the 38-year-old complainant had quit her job
as programme head, Chennai, with Malayalam channel Surya TV in May after
being repeatedly subjected to sexual abuse and humiliation at the
workplace by Praveen who is also in-charge of that channel.
Remand
A CCB team probing the complaint picked up Praveen from his residence in
Anna Nagar early on Friday. Following questioning, he was booked under
various charges, including sexual harassment at the workplace, criminal
breach of trust and intimidation, and arrested. He was remanded in
judicial custody the same evening, sources added.
